FISHING
With all that pristine water, there are bound to be fish. In fact, seafood from Dingle is among the best in the world, so try some yourself and head out for a spot of shore or sea fishing. You’ll find beach, surf, and rock fishing all around the Dingle Peninsula, including areas close to Dingle Town. Take every precaution when rock fishing and don’t head out in bad weather, as waves can be unpredictable and rock surfaces can be treacherous when wet.
Shore Fishing
For bass, dogfish and flounder, head to Inch beach, the Trabeg estuary, Ventry, or Ferriter’s Cove. Clogher Head is a good spot for pollock and ballan wrasse. In fact, the wrasse from northern side of the headland at Clogher Head is excellent, with the Irish record taken from here. Be careful in poor weather, however, as access can be extremely difficult. For sea trout, try Brandon Pier and Beach, and Dingle Harbour is the place to head for a huge range of fish, including bass, dab, flounder, mackerel, mullet, and thornback ray.
All at Sea
If you want to head further out and spend a day at sea, you can charter a fishing boat with an experienced skipper on board. You don’t have to be an experienced angler; a couple of hours at sea is a great experience for all the family. Among the species you may be lucky enough to land are mackerel, pollock, ling, cod, conger, and tope.
