WATERSPORTS
Surrounded on three sides by the mighty Atlantic Ocean, the Dingle Peninsula is a haven for water babies. From sailing and surfing to kayaking and paddle boarding, there really is a water sport here for everybody.
Sailing
You’ll find excellent dinghy sailing in the sheltered confines of Dingle Harbour. Check out the ISA-approved dinghy sailing courses for all ages. You will also find powerboat courses and summer clubs for kids. You can also go dinghy sailing in Smerwick Harbour. You’ll find many sheltered inlets for kayaking too.
Swimming
Swim safely along the shore at Béal Bán (the White Strand) and Wine Strand on the shores of Smerwick Harbour. Ventry is also perfect for swimming, but avoid swimming at Clogher and Coomenole because of the strong currents. Further along the peninsula, Castlegregory offers excellent swimming conditions. Never swim alone and seek out beaches with lifeguards on duty.
Surfing
Surfing has become very popular in recent years, and, with its excellent waves, the Dingle Peninsula has become a prime target for surfers. Try the surf schools at Inch and Maharees for beginners and more advanced surfers. Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) is also available from surf schools – ideal if you’d rather not get too wet! All equipment, including wetsuits, can be rented.
